A Guide To Resume Writing In 6 Easy Steps

Resume Writing Help

Do you need a guide to resume writing? Look no further - Other than a job interview, there is no aspect of job hunting that leaves people in more confusion than resume writing. Luckily, all it takes is a little guidance and a little thought, and you can have your own successful resume. Check out this guide to resume writing for some quick tips to get you on the right track...

Make it perfect- This is something omitted in a lot of guides to resume writing, but it’s important to understand the importance. If you have mistakes in your resume, you are telling the employer that you are too dumb to even bother checking things. Not a good first impression to make!

Keep it punchy- You want the reader to have as easy a time as possible when reading through it, so keep your sentences short and sweet, and try to break up your paragraphs with some open space to give their eyes a break from time to time.

Preparation pays dividends- An essential part of the entire application process is research. In a guide to resume writing, you will often be told to research things before the interview, but research can play a big part when putting together a successful resume. Take some time to find out and imagine exactly what the employer is looking for from the new employee. Then construct your resume around those factors-if done well, you can make yourself seem like the answer to all their prayers!

Never volunteer anything negative- If there is something negative in your work history, for example a firing or a disciplinary, try not to mention it on the resume. It’s never a good idea to lie, but instead try to gloss over it by simple stating “Employment Ended” or something like that. It’s very hard to explain such things in a resume or written scenario, so instead leave it until the interview when you will have a chance to give an honest explanation of the situation.

Keep it realistic- Once your resume is finished, take some time to look over it and analyze whether or not it matches up to you in person. If it doesn’t match for one reason or another, you will soon find that you don’t progress past the interview stage. You will simply not be the person the interview is expecting, which will rarely be a good thing.

Focus on your achievements- As a general guide to resume writing, achievements speak volumes about a person. If you have been your current employer’s highest performer for the last two years, chances are you will perform well for a new employer. Employers understand that certain qualities in people will translate from job to job, and your achievements are often proof that you possess such qualities.

Hopefully this guide to resume writing has give you a good idea of what you need to do to write a resume that brings all the success you need!
