Career Fair

Using Career Fairs To Speed Up Your Job Search And Advance Your Career

Career Fair

If you are busy on a job search or trying your best for a career change, you must be going through job advertisements in newspapers or relying on online recruitment portals. You might also be thinking of approaching recruitment agencies. But do you know that career fairs can be another source of recruitment advice that you want? At such fairs you can find out about different career job opportunities and apply for them at the same time.

You may or may not be aware of career fairs. In any case let me tell you that a career fair like any other fair is organized in a large public place. It can be held in a hotel, a large departmental store or even in an open place by constructing temporary sheds.

There a large number of companies, mostly those looking for human resources set up booths. These booths contain all sorts of information regarding the companies which include brochures, leaflets and all other credentials. Interested candidates may visit these booths, talk to the human resource executives present there .They may even submit their applications and in many cases appear in on-site interviews. Even those who are not thinking of immediate career change may get all sorts of career information which may be immensely helpful for their career planning.

Now you must be asking about the advantages of career fair and why you should visit one. The unique feature of a career fair is that it is the only place where you will get so many employers assembled under the same roof at the same time. Though the number varies with the size of the fair, you will get more than fifty employers even in a small fair. Newspapers, online recruitment portals, and recruitment agencies will not be able to provide you with such a large number of headhunting employers in such a short time. Besides, here you are able to interact directly with the company representatives and hence able to get answers to your specific questions. This particular feature is absent in case of all other forms of job search, be it in the employment pages of local newspapers or with other recruitment service providers.

Another important aspect of career fairs is that employers participating in these fairs are often found to be carrying on different types of businesses. You may find under the same roof employers looking for electricians, fitters, nurses, doctors and even software professionals. This is a great thing as you will be able to get vital career information about different sectors. It will give you an opportunity to assess your position in the job market. You may even rediscover yourself and find a new career in a new sector. It is not that only the job seekers are entertained in these booths. So even if you are not in a career transition mode, you may use the information gathered, for your future career planning.

Now if you feel that you should pay a visit to a career fair, the first step is to locate them. Since majority of the career fairs are held in public places you may come across one in a shopping centre or an auditorium or even in an entertainment park. The organizers generally advertise about the events well in advance. So you may find about them in your local newspaper, on the internet or even from the wayside hoardings.

It has already been explained how a career fair can open new avenues for you. Now if you decide to pay a visit to such a fair be sure to appear in your formal attire, carry your resume and be ready for an interview. Many employers would like to interview you on the spot. So be prepared for that. For all you know, your career dream find could be just a fair away!
