Job Description Job Title: Finish Blade Operator/Foreman Reports To: Superintendent FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: Gillette, WY Summary: Operates self-propelled grader to spread and level dirt, gravel, and stone to finish grade specifications in construction and maintenance of earthwork structures such as highways, streets, airports, dikes, temporary roads, and subdivisions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain a safe working environment for all activities on project Operates blade to regulate elevation and angle of slopes May perform fine or rough grading Reads and interprets survey markers and stakes to meet set standards Reads and interprets plans and specifications Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment. Provides minor equipment maintenance inspections such as greasing, checking oil, transmission fluid and water. Drives grader in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals. Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on tractor. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience operating finish blade or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Read grade stakes and understand their meaning. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables. Computer Skills: No Computer skills needed. Certificates and Licenses: Valid driverís license and clean driving history. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has supervisory responsibilities for support personnel around equipment. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
