Description
The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as an Administrative Assistant in the Community Relations Office.

This position provides secretarial and administrative support to the Community Relations Managers/Compliance Officers, Community Coalition, and Champaign Human Relations Commission. Primary responsibilities include: customer service; executive support; preparation/distribution of agendas meeting materials, and media releases; records management; special event planning; posting to social media; website maintenance; and responses to public information requests. This position processes accounts payable and affirmative action certifications, assists with the annual budget, and serves as backup to administrative staff in the City Manager/Mayor’s Office.

The Administrative Assistant must exercise initiative with minimal instruction; be able to effectively multitask; demonstrate exceptional critical thinking, customer service, and project coordination skills; and be available to work occasional evening hours.

Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Extensive professional administrative support experience requiring critical thinking, confidentiality, and discretion.
• Extensive customer service experience.
• Experience working with groups of people from diverse backgrounds.
• Advanced software experience with Microsoft Office.
• Advanced skills in English grammar/writing and math.

Skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting multiple managers.
• Associate’s degree or certification as a professional secretary.
• Experience in the public sector, government, or nonprofit.
• Advanced experience with brochure/publication design, web page design, and social media.


Notes
