The University of Nevada, Reno invites candidates for the position of Specialist, Communications with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division. This is a temporary one year, administrative faculty position.

The Specialist, Communications serves as a communications liaison between various University of Nevada, Reno units and the Office of Marketing and Communications. The Specialist, Communications is responsible for developing and implementing communications that align with the strategic directions of the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The position coordinates communications via all mediums, acts as a liaison between OIT and other University units and works closely with the Vice Provost, IT/CIO to implement the strategic vision of OIT in coordination with the guidelines set forth by the Office of Marketing and Communication.

Responsibilities include: Working with OIT team members to write narrative prose, explanatory text, advertising copy and articles for university websites, print, radio, online and display publications; Participate in creative direction discussions; Shepherd projects to completion by working with team members to maintain creative direction of the final product; edit and publish content on news and events websites; work with OIT team members to write, edit and publish information on the Web, within the establish web content management system used by OIT; and use social media to keep faculty, staff, students, and community members informed about the University’s efforts and projects.

The Specialist, Communications works in a team environment with individuals of different competencies within the OIT organization to develop communications plans for audiences inside and outside of the University. Team members work together on most projects to meet goals and deadlines. However, the Specialist, Communications is charged with ensure that communications are appropriate for the given target audience and delivered via the most suitable medium.

Minimum Qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s degree and two years or Master’s degree and one year of relevant work experience, whereas relevant work experience is defined as market-based and/or journalistic writing; marketing and/or communications; website content management systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity and experience with web based and other media channels for both sharing and receiving information. Conversant in the current social media options and has a point of view of which option to use when connecting with specific audiences. A clear, concise and coherent writing style and experience with layout. New graduates who have gained applicable experience during their undergraduate studies are encouraged to apply.
