ESA is currently seeking a qualified archaeologist to work in ESA’s Cultural Resources Group, Northern California Region. The right candidate must have broad-based knowledge in the recordation and evaluation of archaeological resources, including surveys, testing excavations, data recovery excavations, as well as the application of federal, state, and local evaluation criteria. Successful candidates would work on a variety of projects, including those associated with our Water, Energy, Community Development, and Airports divisions. Position is located in ESA’s Sacramento office.

Candidates must possess effective problem-solving ability, strong computer skills, excellent writing/oral communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and with a team. Qualified candidates should have Master’s Degree in archaeology or closely related field, at least five years of professional experience in the archaeology field or related field (meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s Standard for archaeologist), and a strong working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and CEQA/NEPA compliance. Experience in preparing Caltrans cultural resource compliance studies is preferred.
